Seeding Sustainability: Beltone’s Educational Journey

On April 19th , 2024, Beltone had the honor of participating in the open day event at the Ècole Des Carmélites, where Beltone’s sustainability team aimed to make a meaningful impact. With a strong focus on sustainability and in collaboration with Youthinkgreen Egypt, we conducted two highly engaging sessions designed to introduce the concept of climate change and sustainability to the students in a simplified yet comprehensive manner to nearly 500 students, ranging from kindergarten to high school.

The first session centered around the importance of planting, as each student received a thoughtfully prepared planting kit containing a recycled pot made from coconut shells, along with seeds and fertilizers. This interactive experience allowed the students to actively participate and connect with nature.

In the second session, we introduced the Enviro Clue Game, a card game that immersed students in the realm of green jobs and sustainability. Through solving climate-related challenges, they gained invaluable insights into the significance of environmental careers, expanding their understanding of the diverse job opportunities in the market. This interactive activity not only facilitated learning but also sparked thought-provoking discussions among the students, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable practices.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ècole Des Carmélites for inviting us to be part of their open day event and for their dedication to providing a platform for sustainability education. As a gesture of gratitude, the Ècole Des Carmélites gifted Beltone a shield to commemorate our participation. At Beltone, we remain committed to empowering younger generations by fostering awareness and knowledge about sustainability. By instilling these values early on, we believe we can contribute to creating a brighter future.

Sustainability Focal Points

Workshop

Beltone is currently dedicated to developing its First Sustainability Report for the fiscal year 2023. In light of this commitment, Beltone’s Sustainability team organized a workshop for the designated sustainability focal points in collaboration with our expert consultant “DCarbon”.

The primary objective of this workshop was to facilitate the efficient collection of data necessary for the report. Additionally, it served as an invaluable platform for providing the focal points with an overview of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. By equipping our focal points with a solid understanding of ESG, we aim to enhance the quality and relevance of the data collected. Furthermore, it was interactive discussion with the consultant.
Notably, the workshop fostered interactive discussions with the consultant, further enriching the learning experience.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the diligent focal points who wholeheartedly participated in the workshop and dedicated their unwavering efforts to the meticulous collection of necessary data for our forthcoming report. Your unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions play an indispensable role in our collective journey towards a resilient and thriving future.

The Materiality Assessment
The Core of Sustainability Reporting

Given Beltone’s unwavering dedication to developing its first Sustainability Report for the fiscal year 2023, it becomes imperative to acknowledge that the heart of sustainability reporting lies the concept of ESG Materiality. This crucial component is considered the cornerstone of any comprehensive sustainability report. Materiality refers to the principle that organizations should report on sustainability topics that have a significant economic, environmental, or social impact on their stakeholders, or that substantially influence stakeholder assessments and decisions. To gain a comprehensive understanding of materiality’s essence, it is crucial to delve into its fundamental phases.

Scope

The initial phase involves defining the boundaries and scope of the materiality assessment. This includes identifying key stakeholders, gaining a thorough understanding of the organization's business activities, and determining the reporting requirements and frameworks to be considered.

Categorization

Once the material topics have been identified, they are organized into relevant groups to streamline the assessment process. Simultaneously, efforts are made to gather information about the importance and impact of each topic on the organization and its stakeholders.

Material Topics

Recognizing the diverse sustainability topics that are relevant to the organization's business activities. This entails identifying and listing the various areas that impact sustainability.

Prioritization

The prioritization phase involves ranking the material topics based on their significance and potential impact. This step ensures that the most critical issues receive appropriate attention and resources. Effective engagement with stakeholders is crucial during this phase to manage the prioritized topics efficiently.

Stakeholder Engagement

Gathering input from stakeholders is a fundamental part of the materiality assessment process. By engaging with key stakeholders such as employees, customers, investors, suppliers, local communities, and NGOs, organizations can refine their approach to materiality. Stakeholder engagement methods may include surveys, focus groups, interviews, and consultation sessions to gather valuable insights on the importance of various issues.

The outcome of this process is the creation of a Materiality Matrix, which visually represents the significance of sustainability topics. This matrix is an invaluable tool used in materiality assessments, providing a clear and concise representation of the most impactful topics.

We wholeheartedly encourage all stakeholders to actively participate in our sustainability reporting journey. By working together, we can ensure that our reporting accurately reflects the material issues and contributes to a thriving and regenerative future.

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

May 21st

As a company that values and supports diversity, we are proud to celebrate this month in honor of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. This important day, observed annually on May 21st, recognizes the richness and significance of cultural diversity, as well as the vital role that intercultural dialogue plays in fostering peace and driving sustainable development.
In line with our commitment to diversity, we acknowledge the United Nations General Assembly’s declaration of this World Day in 2002, following the adoption of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity by UNESCO in 2001. This declaration emphasized the need to harness culture’s potential to promote prosperity, sustainable development, and global peaceful coexistence.

In light of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the United Nations in September 2015 and the UN General Assembly’s Resolution A/C.2/70/L.59 on Culture and Sustainable Development in December 2015, the message of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development holds even greater significance. It underscores the integral role that cultural diversity plays in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. By embracing and celebrating the creative contributions of diverse cultures and fostering ongoing dialogue, we can ensure that everyone in society benefits from sustainable development.
As we celebrate this month, let us continue to champion diversity, promote intercultural dialogue, and actively work towards a more inclusive and harmonious world.
