Milestones

2023

  • Carbon Footprint Report 2023
We believe that we have an important role to play in addressing the challenge of climate change. Consequently, we have taken measures to measure our greenhouse gases (GHGs) and mitigate our contribution to climate change and to be a green company. To achieve this, we have developed a Carbon Footprint Report for the first two quarters of 2023 and the full report will be published in the first quarter in 2024. This is a part of our efforts to become a green company.
  • Go Green – Bekia Initiative
In line with our theme “New Year Green Start”, Beltone has partnered with Bekia waste management company to collect and recycle our wastepaper.
  • Train To Sustain Initiative

As valued members of our team, they receive the same rights and privileges as all Beltone employees, marking a significant milestone as the first Egyptian company to undertake such an initiative.
  • Conference of Parties (COP28)
Beltone’s Sustainability Department has attended COP28 in Dubai and it was a remarkable experience. Throughout the event, we actively participated in captivating panels, side events, and negotiations. Our involvement provided valuable insights into a multitude of initiatives both in Egypt and on a global scale, enhancing our understanding of the challenges posed by climate change.

  • Establishment of the Health and Safety Committee

Seeding Sustainability: Beltone’s Educational Journey

On April 19th , 2024, Beltone had the honor of participating in the open day event at the Ècole Des Carmélites, where Beltone’s sustainability team aimed to make a meaningful impact. With a strong focus on sustainability and in collaboration with Youthinkgreen Egypt, we conducted two highly engaging sessions designed to introduce the concept of climate change and sustainability to the students in a simplified yet comprehensive manner to nearly 500 students, ranging from kindergarten to high school.

The first session centered around the importance of planting, as each student received a thoughtfully prepared planting kit containing a recycled pot made from coconut shells, along with seeds and fertilizers. This interactive experience allowed the students to actively participate and connect with nature.

In the second session, we introduced the Enviro Clue Game, a card game that immersed students in the realm of green jobs and sustainability. Through solving climate-related challenges, they gained invaluable insights into the significance of environmental careers, expanding their understanding of the diverse job opportunities in the market. This interactive activity not only facilitated learning but also sparked thought-provoking discussions among the students, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable practices.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ècole Des Carmélites for inviting us to be part of their open day event and for their dedication to providing a platform for sustainability education. As a gesture of gratitude, the Ècole Des Carmélites gifted Beltone a shield to commemorate our participation. At Beltone, we remain committed to empowering younger generations by fostering awareness and knowledge about sustainability. By instilling these values early on, we believe we can contribute to creating a brighter future.

Carbon Credit Trade Summary

“In recent years, there has been a notable increase in businesses adopting sustainable practices that focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. This shift is critical as the global economy transitions rapidly to a low-carbon model to meet the climate goals set out in the Paris Agreement.

Understanding Carbon Credits

Carbon credits are tradable certificates or permits that represent the right to emit one metric ton of carbon dioxide or an equivalent amount of other greenhouse gases. These credits are earned by organizations or projects that actively reduce greenhouse gas emissions or remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The Launch of the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM)

In alignment with global trends, the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) of Egypt has amended the Executive Regulations of the Capital Market Law to recognize ‘Carbon Credits’ as a financial instrument, following the model established by the European Union. During the COP27 summit in 2022, the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) in collaboration with the FRA announced the establishment of the region’s first voluntary carbon market. Egypt is pioneering a hybrid carbon market system that effectively integrates regulations, markets, and innovation. Although the market is voluntary, it operates under stringent regulations to ensure the credibility and trustworthiness of the carbon credits generated.

To support this initiative, the FRA has collaborated with the EGX and the Ministry of Environment of Egypt to form a high-level Voluntary Carbon Market Committee. This committee is tasked with setting regulations for the issuance and trading of carbon credits, establishing criteria for the selection of Verifier and Validator Bodies for carbon projects, and maintaining overall market integrity.

Beltone Securities Brokerage’s Role

Beltone Securities Brokerage is proud to announce that it has obtained the first license for carbon credit trading and has successfully executed the first carbon credit trade on the Egyptian Exchange. This landmark transaction represents a significant milestone in the development of Africa’s first regulated voluntary carbon market, launched on the sidelines of COP27 in 2022. This achievement is the result of months of close collaboration with regulators to establish the trading rules for carbon credits and their future contracts.

Moreover, this transaction underscores Egypt’s ambitious ESG strategy, a vision that Beltone Holding fully supports by offering an expanding portfolio of ESG-focused financial products. We are committed to advancing sustainable development goals and contributing to a more sustainable future.”

Beltone’s Group CEO, Dr. Dalia Khorshid:

Leading Beltone’s Green Revolution

Dr. Dalia Khorshid, Group CEO and Managing Director of Beltone Holding, was recently recognized by Forbes as one of the leading figures in sustainability, affirming her influential role in the financial sector and her commitment to integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into Beltone’s core strategy. This accolade underscores her visionary approach to sustainability, positioning her as a role model not only in Egypt but globally, as she champions responsible investing and steers Beltone towards a green-focused future.

Dr. Khorshid has set Beltone on a transformative path, blending profitability with a commitment to environmental responsibility. Under her leadership, Beltone has taken significant strides in green finance, marking a historic achievement with Egypt’s first carbon credit trade in August 2024. This milestone transaction, conducted between the Egyptian Biodynamic Association and Isis for Food Manufacturing, has been praised as a key step in advancing Egypt’s sustainability landscape. The deal is more than a financial accomplishment; it signals Beltone’s pioneering role in leveraging financial tools to promote environmental progress and set a benchmark for future green transactions in the region.

Beyond this, Beltone has expanded its green investment portfolio with a strategic equity stake in VelyVelo, an e-bike fleet management company in France and Morocco, that aims to expand into Spain and Belgium. This investment not only underscores Beltone’s support for sustainable urban mobility but also aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions, especially in densely populated cities where transportation is a major source of pollution. Dr. Khorshid’s decision to back VelyVelo is a testament to her belief in scalable solutions that balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.

Beltone’s sustainability journey under Dr. Khorshid’s guidance is evident internally as well. In 2023, the company undertook a comprehensive measurement of its carbon footprint, totaling 2,190 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent, and set a target to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42% by 2030. This ambitious goal demonstrates Beltone’s proactive approach to environmental management within its own operations, further solidifying its status as a leader in sustainable finance. Additionally, Beltone has embraced circular economy principles, partnering with Bekia Waste Management to recycle paper and plastics. Profits from these recycling initiatives are directed towards charitable causes, reflecting Dr. Khorshid’s vision of a holistic approach to corporate responsibility that benefits both the environment and the community.

This recognition from Forbes solidifies Dr. Khorshid’s reputation as a global leader in sustainability, with Beltone’s green finance achievements demonstrating how financial institutions can be powerful catalysts for environmental change. By embedding sustainability into Beltone’s DNA, she has created a corporate culture that prioritizes both economic growth and a commitment to building a greener future. Through her strategic vision, Beltone continues to inspire the financial industry to align with global sustainability goals, ensuring the company’s lasting impact on the planet for generations to come.

Prioritizing Employee Safety:

Beltone’s

Commitment to a Secure and Healthy Workplace

At Beltone, the safety and well-being of our employees is not just a responsibility but a fundamental priority that we uphold at every level of the organization. We believe that a safe and secure working environment is the foundation for both individual and collective success. With this in mind, we have implemented numerous safety measures to ensure that every team member feels protected and supported throughout their time at the company. One of the key steps we’ve taken is the installation of fully equipped First Aid Boxes at critical locations within our office spaces. Whether you are at the reception area or on any floor of the building, you will find a first aid box strategically placed for easy access in case of any unforeseen medical issues or emergencies.
By placing first aid boxes on each floor and at the reception, we are taking concrete steps to ensure that emergency assistance is never far away. This is just one example of how we are continually investing in our employees’ safety, underscoring the belief that nothing is more important than their welfare. At Beltone, your safety is not only a policy—it is our unwavering promise.

Each first aid box contains a comprehensive range of supplies designed to handle minor injuries and provide immediate care until professional medical assistance can be obtained if necessary. These kits are regularly inspected and replenished to ensure that they are always ready for use, reflecting our proactive approach to health and safety. By making first aid easily accessible, we aim to provide a swift response to any situation that may arise, minimizing potential risks and ensuring that our employees are always in good hands.
This commitment to safety is part of our larger goal to create a workplace environment that is not only productive but also compassionate and responsive to the needs of our team members. We understand that the well-being of our employees directly impacts the overall success of the company, and we are committed to ensuring that every individual who works at Beltone can do so in an environment that prioritizes their health, safety, and peace of mind.

Beltone Signs the ERA Pledge for Equal Representation in Arbitration

Beltone at “COP29” :

Embracing the Vision of an "Ideal City" by our colleagues with special needs.

Beltone’s Sustainability Department proudly participated at COP29 in Azerbaijan, supporting an extraordinary initiative by Dalil El Kheir Foundation. This groundbreaking effort is led by an inspiring trio of visionaries—Sama Ramy, Ali Mohamed, and Kareen Hany—who are paving the way for an inclusive and sustainable future.

Our talented colleague, has spearheaded the remarkable “Ideal City” project, envisioning urban spaces built on the principles of accessibility, sustainability, and inclusivity. The dedication of all of them has further enriched the project, ensuring it stands as a beacon of collaboration and innovation.

We are thrilled to highlight that this visionary project was the only initiative presented by individuals with special needs at COP29—a true milestone for empowerment and representation. Together, Sama, Ali, and Kareen have showcased that inclusion and sustainability can transform the future of urban living.

Sustainability Awareness for schools

The Sustainability Department at Beltone kicked off an educational initiative last April, aimed at fostering a deep understanding of environmental responsibility among young students and encouraging them to adopt sustainable habits from an early age. Through partnerships with local organizations and educational institutions, Beltone is dedicated to building a greener future for all, one school at a time.

This program spans across different governorates, reaching an average of 250 schools, including national, international, and STEM schools.

Uniquely, this is the first initiative in Egypt to combine sustainability awareness in schools with a competitive element. Through interactive activities, hands-on projects, and informative discussions, students are empowered to be environmentally conscious leaders. Winning teams from each school category will have the opportunity to participate in the prestigious international competition. This competition highlights young leaders who skillfully combine coding with sustainability, fostering a new generation of tech-driven, eco-conscious advocates.

This month was the second round in collaboration with Carbon Impact Lab, starting with an interactive program at the British School of Egypt. The day began with a welcoming ceremony that included a fun icebreaker and a simple introduction to sustainability concepts, highlighting their importance through engaging stories and examples suitable for young learners.

Students then dove into “The Power of Recycling,” where they participated in a hands-on recycling relay, learning about waste sorting and the importance of recycling. As a reminder of their new knowledge, each student created a reusable item.

In the “Energy efficiency” session, children raced solar-powered toy cars, demonstrating the benefits of renewable energy and sparking conversations about solar and water power.

This month, we celebrated the Eat Mindful theme with an inspiring event led by Dr. Amal Farag, a renowned nutritionist, to help our employees explore the power of mindful eating and workplace wellness.

Dr. Farag’s engaging session focused on practical tips for balanced nutrition, workplace wellness, and the art of mindful eating. She highlighted the importance of slowing down, listening to hunger cues, and savoring each bite—simple practices that transform the way we experience food and improve overall well-being.

Employees actively participated in an interactive Q&A session, addressing personal health concerns and gaining actionable insights.

The event also featured In-Body Measurements, offering employees a personalized look into their body composition, including muscle mass and metabolic rate. These metrics encouraged goal-setting for healthier habits. To cap it off, attendees received exciting giveaways, samples, and exclusive discount vouchers.

What is Mindful Eating?

Mindful eating means being fully present with your meals—enjoying the flavors, textures, and aromas while eating without distractions. It fosters a healthier relationship with food and reduces overeating.
